Frequently asked questions
Can refugee claimants work in Canada?
Yes, with a work permit. You can request one in your refugee claim. It is issued once your claim is found eligible to be referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board and you have passed your medical exam. Then apply for a Social Insurance Number.
Can resettled refugees work for any employer?
Yes. Resettled refugees arrive in Canada as permanent residents, so they can work for any employer, anywhere in Canada.
What documents do employers ask for?
Usually proof that you can work in Canada, such as your work permit or permanent resident card, and your Social Insurance Number.
Does Jobs For Refugee help with refugee claims?
No. We are a job board. For help with your claim, contact Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a legal aid clinic or a settlement agency near you.
